Let's cut to the chase, the answer is...it depends. But here's what it depends on most, and specifically, what it means for your business.
There's a well known adage: "no one gets fired for choosing _______ ." As a former Microsoft sales exec, I'm sure I benefitted from that. We were the quintessential 800 lb gorilla. Impossible to ignore, and incredibly powerful. But was every lane our best lane? No. I've also been at smaller companies and experienced the other side of the spectrum.
When it comes to consultants, this is especially true. Big consultants like Accenture, Cap Gemini, and Tech Mehendra definitely have their place. If you need a giant project delivered with loads of deliverables or vendors, and millions (or billions) of dollars floated on 90 day terms throughout the process, they are often the only game in town. They will probably cost a fortune, but it's probably necessary.
On the other side of the equation is a far larger amount of projects and decisions that are more streamlined. This is where a different approach sometimes makes sense. If a project or goal is smaller in scope, you can probably find an expert with more targeted experience, at a fraction of the cost, who is personally invested in your success, and will probably deliver exponentially more value.
At SummaCode, we have a network of top experts who are excited and eager to assist you with your projects and goals. In many cases, this may be the right approach for you. We will streamline the procurement and contracting process, and stay closely engaged to ensure the best results.
If you have a project or network, and could use some help, drop us a line and let's see if the expert network-effect can work to your advantage. It's a free conversation, and may turn out to be great for all involved.
